Tuohy anchors North Rockland SMR to comeback win By John Nepolitan of DyeStat Cold and windy conditions Friday gave way to better weather Saturday at the Red Raider Invitational in Thiells, N.Y. NXN championd Katelyn Tuohy of North Rockland NY got the baton about 100 meters behind Bay Shore NY in a sprint medley relay, but her 2:12.2 leg brought her team home in first place. Northport NY's Claiborne twins, Isaiah and Elijah, were part of two winning relays, running 200-and 400-meter legs on the winning sprint medley relay (3:38.36) and also legs on the winning 4x400 (3:27.23). It was a chance for some speed work Northport gears up for next weekend's distance medley relay at the Penn Relays. On Friday, Lavonna Mitchell (Albertus Magnus NY) took the high jump with a clearance at 6-4 and then came back Saturday to win the 100 (11.00) and place second in the 200 (22.29). Thomas Wilson of Pearl River NY took double gold with 49.32 in 400 and a 22.27 in the 200. New York State indoor triple jump champion Nadia Saunders of North Rockland jumped 37-5 for the win in front of the home crowd. |
